The Board meets monthly at the Division of Pensions and Benefits in Trenton. The general responsibility for the operation of the PERS is vested in the Board of Trustees under the provisions of N.J.S.A. Trustee Tracy Smith was the only candidate to receive the number of nominations (500) required for an election and therefore is elected to this position without balloting. However, the election has been extended until August 7, 2023, at 4 p.m., in order to ensure maximum participation. 
The election was set to end as of July 7, 2023, at 4 p.m. Election ballots were distributed by YesElections to all participating PERS-Municipal locations on or about June 6, 2023.
Two nominees, Matthew Cavallo and James Frazier, received the requisite 300 nominations, thus requiring an election.
